For Odette, her role in the cafeteria is more than just serving food; it’s about taking care of everyone and creating a warm atmosphere. “I love being in the cafeteria to take care of everyone, and that hot meal on Tuesdays is just part of that,” she says with a smile.
“It makes me happy when I see people enjoying themselves, and the compliments I get make the work extra fun.”
When it comes to favorites, Odette immediately mentions her pea soup. “That one is always a hit, especially in the winter. I think it’s so cozy to serve something warm and savory when it’s cold outside.”
Sandwiches with a “special twist” are also popular. “I like to keep a little variation in it, just like responding to the seasons. For example, in the summer I like to serve a fresh asparagus soup, salads, or a light pasta.”
Some dishes stay with her extra because of the enthusiastic reactions of colleagues. “When I made rendang with sajur beans the other day, everyone raved.
Such dishes are special and make lunch moments just that little bit different,” Odette says.
As for her inspiration, she likes to look around her. “Colleagues inspire me, too! If some of them have a cold, I try to make an extra healthy winter meal. And I also look a lot on social media, like TikTok and Instagram, for new ideas.”
And her dishes are clearly appreciated by the team. Lieke finds it hard to choose, but the homemade soups and the “La Place sandwich” with chicken and bean sprouts are at the top of her list. Elise and Mirjam totally agree: “That sandwich is really fantastic!” Danique quickly interjects that Odette’s rendang is second to none, and Rens sticks to his favorite, the classic: Odette’s pasta Bolognaise.
